This is no little stomach virus like I had last weekend. I was able to power through that – I was able to say, Scrooge-like, “Bah! Stomach Virus – I do not believe in you. You are but a bit of undercooked beef – you are but a blot of mustard.” No. This is the kind of sick that rattles it’s chains and makes scary noises and comes as a warning of what will happen to you over the next few days . . . whether you change your ways or not.
(this is what i was doing all last weekend while i busy ignoring the stomach bug)
Watching my son play Bob Cratchit (and a couple of other roles) in A Christmas Carol was probably the most Christmas-y thing I’ve ever done! We had a great time and ALL of the players did an excellent job!
Switch to this week: I went out to do a little shopping Saturday night. I picked up the rest of the garlands I need to do the front porch lights and a few more things around the house. I had a little bit of a funny feeling in my chest but I felt fine for the most part. By the time I got home I had a suspicion of what was coming – even though I still felt okay. I decided to stay up late and decorate – while I still could. I was worried that I would be out of commission by the morning.
I woke up with a temperature of 99.0 – and two hours later it was 102.5. Right. Out of commission.
So, I got a lot done last night. The dining room mantel is done. The living room mantel is almost done. The piano top is decorated and the kitchen mantel is finished, too. Things are looking pretty spiffy. The tree is up – but it’s naked. Not a light on it. Sigh. . .
I still have a list – in my head. Probably should get it down on paper. But honestly, for now, all I can do is sit here in my chair. And as long as I’m being honest – the chair really isn’t cutting it – I may need the bed.
This is really not a good time for being sick, ya know? I’ve got stuff to do!! I’ve got Christmas Magic to create!
Hopefully, the Spirits can make several days of sickness happen all in one night and I can get back to regularly scheduled programming by tomorrow.
Somehow I doubt it.
As I said, we did manage to get our tree. That plan, (initially scheduled for a week ago) was derailed by the bug I had last weekend but we squeaked in under the wire this time. What the heck is going on around here?? As none of us were sick at that moment we had a lovely time at the farmstand where we buy our tree every year.
It’s all about the kids, right?
Of course, this was the same child who tried to pick out a Scotch Pine for our Christmas tree!!! What’s that?? That’s like a Christmas SHRUB!! No. No Christmas shrubbery for this house. Where did this kid come from? Who raised him??
no offense – if you like that kind of thing
**update: the lights are on the tree as of tonight – but i still have a fever – and that’s going to have to do for now. at least i have that to look at while i lie on the couch!
Do you go out and pick a tree each year? Have you opted for artificial? More importantly, is your tree up and decorated? Tell me, are you ahead, or behind, or right on schedule?
14 days to go!
