Beek Week(end) Part 2 {the mansion, the barn, and every living thing on Beekman Farm}{37}

I am so sorry you had to wait this long to see the rest of the photos from my weekend in Sharon Springs, New York.  I wish I could have gotten them to you sooner but it’s been a crazy week so far.  I’m going to put TONS of photos into this post in an effort to make it up to you!  When last we met, Mr. Social Media and I had done our tour of the town and the new Beekman 1802 Mercantile,  and were about to board the shuttle bus that would take us out to the farm.  Remember?

Now.  Before I tell you how amazing the Farm itself is – I have to take a minute to mention the beauty of the surrounding area.  I’ve never been to Sharon Springs before – even though I grew up about 30 miles East, in Schenectady.  My earlier proximity in no way prepared me for the landscape of the Schoharie Valley.  It’s quite different.  Quite incredible.  Here are a couple of shots that I took by simply sticking my camera out the window of the moving bus as it made it’s way to the Beekman Farm.

Take your time with those landscapes.  Mother Nature put a lot of effort into that.

After our short shuttle ride we reached the Beekman Farm.  I was terribly excited.  I did not act like I was excited.  That would be uncool.  But.  Really?  You pull off the road – and there it is!

exiting the bus doors - this is your first sight of the house

The house, or rather, the mansion, is every bit as wonderful as you want it to be.  Every inch of it is just stunningly immaculate.  We were not allowed to go inside the house – which seems fair.  I think someone lives in there. . .

my brain sees this as the "back" of the house though it is really the front. this is the side that faces the road. . .

Continuing on past this side of the house we were treated to several more outstanding views of this historic building.  I know you just want to see how beautiful it is.  Go ahead and say it.  Less talk – more walk!  Here you go. . .

and there is the view that you're the most familiar with - amazing, right?

i'm running out of appropriate adjectives. . . may have to move on to words you can't say on television. . .

I’m not sure if you can tell but we have come almost all the way around the house at this point.  Standing here looking at the porch from this angle – the goat barn is directly behind me.  Would you like to see that, too?

Now, you know the puppy doesn’t live in the barn.  No.  But I did see her and evidence of how well she’s taken care of. . .

Those are some of this Spring’s babies.  They’ve grown quite a bit but they’re not full sized yet.  They are incredibly friendly and curious.  Really.  Just begging for attention and affection.  So lovely.  It is quite clear that they are well loved and cared for.  But, you know, not all goats grow at the same rate.

little Faintly doesn't live at Beekman Farm any more - but she was visiting for the day. . .

There she is!  Tiny little Miss Faintly.  She is bigger than my camera – but according to Farmer John, only about half the size of her sister who still lives there on the farm.

I did not forget Polka Spot.  She really stands out in the crowd being the only llama. . . but it seems llike she enjoys the spotllight.

I was lucky enough to get to see the milking operation in progress while I was there.  I spent a big chunk of my childhood on dairy farms.  This is not so very different.  Just a smaller scale, really.

how the goats earn their keep. . .

Once we had finished with the animals in the barn we headed over to the vegetable garden.  There isn’t much growing out there quite yet.  Garlic, sugar snap peas, and a few others are well under way but the plants haven’t really taken over for the year, yet.  To say that the garden is beautiful is just a woeful understatement.  I was so taken with the stone wall that surrounds the garden.  I really do have a “thing” for stone walls – and this one is really something. . .

can you see the stone wall?

Of course, I could do a whole blog series on this garden alone – but I think we may already be well beyond the limit of most attention spans.  Did the pretty pictures keep you entertained or was it just too much?  So many of you asked me to post ALL the pictures that I decided to put lots and lots in this post!  I hope you enjoyed them.  Just one or two more now.

The peonies were just finishing up on the Sunday that we were there – and coincidentally, I came home to my first blooms of the season.
