I’ll Light the Fire…{23}

Hi there.

I can almost hear the collective sigh still escaping everyone’s lips.  That’s it.  Another Christmas – in the books.

my husband was an official “Santa’s Helper” this year…

Here I am (almost) three days post Christmas and I am down with a nasty cold.  There shouldn’t be any surprises from this germ…my husband and my kids all got it just about exactly two weeks ago but I refused to succumb.  There was Christmas magic to be made!  I kept telling them (all members of my household) to stay away from me and keep their cooties to themselves.  I told them that their Christmas would likely be a lot more fun if they kept their distance and kept me healthy…

…just a few shots form around the house before I take it all down…

Alas, there is only so much to that whole “mind over matter” thing.  As we wound through the day on the 24th my throat began to hurt.  By bedtime that night – it was killing me.  The excitement of Christmas Day carried me through and even on the 26th I thought maybe I had dodged the bullet.  For the last two days straight though(27th & 28th), I’ve been pretty much stationary.  I’ve done almost literally nothing.  Except tend the fire.  I’m sitting  in my wingback chair – in my pajamas – and my robe – and every once in a while I get up and put another log on the fire.  Sometimes I just go over and poke it around a little.  After living in this house for over 16 years – I am finally using one of our fireplaces.  Extremely satisfying.

I’ve read a few blog posts over the last couple of days – everyone is marching forward toward 2015 – making resolutions – plans – reviewing their most popular blog posts of 2014… Strangely, I’m not even sure which day this week is New Year’s Eve.  I seem to have gone from traveling at the speed of Christmas (very, very, fast indeed) and then come directly to a full stop.  And I’ve really enjoyed myself here by the fire (except for the nasty cold part).  And I wonder why it takes getting sick for me to arrange this kind of thing.

So.  Maybe you’d like to join me?  You know – virtually – from your own living room – from your own comfy chair.  Without the necessity of getting sick.

I’ll light the fire.

ps. Happy New Year Everyone – it took me a couple of days to put this post up – still feeling lousy – but now I know that tomorrow (Wednesday) is New Year’s Eve!
