Lucketts, Hometalk, and Junk {Funky Junk, that is. . .}{28}

If you were reading along with me at this time last year, you might remember that I made the long trip to Leesburg, Virginia to visit The Old Lucketts Store and shop the Lucketts Spring Market.  Why travel all that way to go to an antiques market?  Well, it really is among the best and is probably worth the trip all on it’s own, but I SO wanted to meet Marian Parsons (Miss Mustard Seed), and I knew she would be there for the meeting. . .  I wrote about my experiences at the fair in a number of posts – you can read about my meeting with Miss Mustard Seed here – if you like.

Way far back – a whole year ago – when I first started blogging, I somehow ended up “talking” (the way one is able to “talk” to someone one has never actually met, these days) to both Miss Mustard Seed and to Donna from Funky Junk Interiors.  Both of these women offered me support and encouragement.  An email here and there – an encouraging word – a comment on a blog post – a project feature. . . it’s almost enough to make you. . . believe in yourself or something!!  I knew from the start that meeting Miss Mustard Seed was a possibility because of the whole Lucketts thing but Funky Junk Donna lives. . . in far Western CANADA! THOUSANDS of miles away!  Donna would always be a pen pal – and never a personal pal. . . right?

Have you heard of Hometalk yet?

Hometalk is the largest home & garden knowledge hub on the web. It’s fueled by the firsthand experience & advice of hundreds of thousands of home enthusiasts and professionals.
Besides being an online destination for home and garden minded folks from all over (bloggers AND non-bloggers), Hometalk works actively to bring bloggers together, helping us to expand our communities and make new connections – not only online but in person as well.

And Hometalk brought Funky Junk Donna – to Lucketts.

Donna - Funky Junk Interiors!!

All the way from Cananda!  Seriously!

It was not at all surprising to me that Donna is just as lovely in person as she is online.  Do you follow her blog?  If you do you’ve heard her talk about empowering people to be able to pick up some Junk and Make something of it – about being able to beautify your own space with what you might have on hand or with any rusty old thing you can find!  And there she was, on Sunday, doing just that.  She was out in front of the Hometalk booth, drawing in passersby – women mostly – some of whom had never so much as touched a power tool. . .

I hung around the Hometalk booth for most of the day on Sunday and I watched as Donna, despite the fact that she was losing her voice from near constant coaching, moved from project to project, making things up on the fly and handing them off to the lucky member of the crowd that worked alongside of her to design and build the junk masterpieces.

what a sense of accomplishment! and a beautiful finished product to take away!

I was so lucky to be able to attend The Lucketts Spring Market again this year.  It was a much different trip than my last one.  Last year I was much on my own (which I also enjoy) and this year I talked to so many different people!  It was a weekend I won’t soon forget.

I’ll be back in a day or two with more photos of the Market itself  and some of the fantastic items I saw.  I bought only a few things this year but I really love what I got.

I’ll share it all with you over the coming week (or so).

Are there antiques shows, or flea markets in your area?  Do you have a favorite?  I’d love to hear about them!
Drop me a comment and tell me where you like to go Junkin’!
