Why Miss Mustard Seed’s Milk Paint?{25}

The truth is – there are a lot of reasons that I have been choosing to do most of my furniture makeovers with Miss Mustard Seed’s Milk Paint.
And maybe someday, we’ll have time to get into all of them.

But not in this post.

For now let’s just say I’m choosing MMSMP because there are paint jobs…

and then

there are paint jobs.

Can you even believe that’s the same little dresser?

The thing that you miss viewing it online is the way that the paint feels to the touch.  I just love it!

It turns out that under all of that shiny blue latex paint there was a sweet little antique pine dresser…

I wonder what kind of pulls it had when it was made… Definitely not those tin foil flower dealies…
There was also white paint under the blue and bright red stain under the white paint.  I stripped and sanded and stripped and sanded until I was right down to the bare wood.  I had only planned to strip the top of this piece but once I got started, I could see that it was really quite old and had a good deal of character.

I added some very simple white ceramic knobs from Lowes.

The paint is MMSMP Mustard Seed Yellow – full strength on the frame of the dresser and mixed with Ironstone on the side panels and drawer fronts.

some imperfections that help to highlight the age of the piece – even though it has a brand new and super smooth paint job…

i love the rounded corners…

…and the inset side panels…

If you’d like the recipe for mixing the colors (and more details on the paint job/top coat) you can find it over on the Milk Paint Blog.

This dresser is on the petite side – 36″ wide and 33′ tall – but there is still quite a bit of storage room in those drawers.

If you’re interested in purchasing this adorable little dresser you can find it in my Etsy Shop!

If you’re local to me you can see it in person at Grandpa’s Antiques at Ireland Corners in Gardiner.

What do you think of the two tone?  You like?  Or you would prefer all one shade?
