Stunning Autumn Decor. NOT! {the bathroom renovations continue – sneak peek!}{17}
Getting to know me:
1. I DO NOT complain about the weather. EVER. Complaining has never changed the weather and I feel like we should be grateful every day that we get to wake up and have weather. . .
2. In the same vein, I would NEVER complain about the upheaval in my house caused by renovating two bathrooms simultaneously.
I’m going to talk about it. But please understand that I am not complaining.
Okay – on with the post!
Even though I don’t want to admit it, I guess it’s time to get ready for Fall. (See? I can’t even say it IS Fall.) But leaves are starting to change and drop, the nights are getting cooler, and the kids went back to school this week.
I don’t do a ton seasonal decorating – but I do have a big bin full of pretty fall things – would you like to see how I’m decorating this year?
I wish! This year it’s looking a lot more like this. . .
Here is a wider shot of the fabulous Fall decor on my front porch. Don’t be jealous.
sorry, no wide angle lens! i really need a wide angle lens to showcase the fab Fall decor on my front porch!
I usually decorate the front porch and the dining room. I put a picture on Facebook a few days ago of the craziness going on in the dining room but you couldn’t see the real focal point of that decorating genius. . .
Oh, and I almost forgot. I splurged on a fancy new runner for the front hallway in the house!
don't you love the smooth brown paper with the edging of blue painter's tape? i love blue and brown together
Remember though, that I am not complaining. While I could wish that the house was not quite so cluttered at the moment, I actually love the hustle and bustle of renovations. Our contractor was Best Man in our wedding 12 years ago so it’s a pleasure to have him around. We know he does great work so there are no major headaches as far as how the job is going. We have the comfort of knowing ahead of time that we will be thrilled with the final product. We haven’t done any major work inside the house in a few years now and it’s very exciting to finally be sprucing up an area that really needed sprucing. Really. I’m so lucky to be in this crazy house – with all the craziness!!
And I do have some real beautiful Fall deco pictures to show you. . .
And then of course, I get a little carried away. I do enjoy the colors of the Fall leaves. And he doesn’t look like he minds too much. . .
I’m thinking that might have to be the extent of my Fall decorating this year. But I know it will all be worth it.
I did promise you a tiny sneak peek at the bathroom, right? Here are a couple of pictures that will give you just a little taste. I’ll have more coming up soon. These are both in the downstairs bathroom – the one that will be getting the painted floor.
I know that is only a very little taste but I promise that there will be more! And there is another whole bathroom coming up too!! It’s an exciting time around here! Come back and see how things are going.
Are you working on or planning any major renovations right now? Is it disrupting the rest of your household? Does it make you crazy or do you take it all in stride?
tell me about it!

Breida – that’s what my house will look like starting next week, so I’ll be able to truly say “I feel your pain”. However, we are just doing one bathroom. Looking forward to seeing the finished project
BTW, your children and your dog are beautiful!

thanks, Elisa! it will be worth it – and it’s not even really that bad now. two bathrooms at one is a little nuts – but that’s how we roll! I was thinking of you this morning when i published this post – because you told me you were starting soon – Almost ready??? Have FUN!! By the way – your house is probably not OLD like mine (meaning you prolly won’t be demo-ing plaster walls) but that paper on the floor thing is great – it’s really saving the old boards some extra unneeded wear and tear.

there were several YEARS in a row where I could see the inside of the walls in more than one place. I was pretty happy when we got to the point where I couldn’t see the inside of ANY walls. . . and we took a big break (on the inside of the house) for a while. We recently passed up an opportunity for a new investment property (we have done a couple gut renovations that we rent out) and decided to invest in our own space NOW instead of later! It’s pretty awesome!!

I absolutely LOVE what you’ve done with the DOG! While the brown runner with blue accent edges certainly does strike my fancy in an all too familiar “we’re doing construction again” sort of way and having a toilet in your dining room certainly does make the type of design statement that will leaving several people guessing (and others shaking their heads), and while your children are adorable and OBVIOUSLY good sports about all of it (I mean it….you need to get these kids a cool gift of some sort for enduring this project and do it quickly…before they grow up and go on late night TV or write a tell-all book) it’s the dog portraits…give that boy a steak…or half a box of treats! You’re getting there and I can not WAIT to see it/them! xo

the kids are alright — we have managed to keep 2 out of 3 toilets working so far (even though the toilet is the ONLY thing in the upstairs hall bath at this point) so it really hasn’t bee so bad. It’ll be nice to get things cleaned up though – I’m working on trying to tidy around the mess today!

Hey! We are renovating our downstairs bathroom right now too! Unfortunately we ran into some hiccups that’s making it take longer than we wanted to finish, but what can you do?? Push on my friend! =] Our downstairs is definitely crowded right now but that could also be because we have had some family living with us for the past couple of months. It’s hard to keep watch on what you leave on the floor, but we have to consider we have four dogs running around AND a ten month old baby. Eek! It’s fun though! The bathroom looks really good so far!! You can take a sneak peek of ours if you visit my blog =]

I’ll be right over! Thanks for stopping by and letting me know you were here! Thank goodness there are no 10 month old babies crawling around here any more!! not that i don’t love them. . . it would just be making this process SO much harder!! good luck!

What kind of Dog is he?! He looks like a mix obviously but he wouldn’t happen to have any Nova Scotia Duck Tolling Retriever in him would he?
Sep 12, 2012 @ 22:33:02
Actually, he is an Australian Shepherd.
People often don’t recognize him because he’s a very unusual color – he’s that silver grey color almost all over – with the copper and white. We originally thought he was what they call a “dilute black” – meaning all of that grey should be black (making him a black tri) but as he grew into his full coat you can see two very subtle places of mereling in the grey – and that makes him a blue merle. It’s all very silly, really. A “dilute black” is not recognized by the AKC and so he couldn’t be a show dog. . . whatever! He’s our boy – and we don’t care what color they call him. I think that coat is GORGEOUS!!
I can see why you would say NSDTR with that particular expression on his face.

30 Rock Makes a Big Bang! {no, it’s not what you think}

[...] My plan for this post was very simple. I meant to do just a little post about the three dollar watering can that I bought at a yard sale over the Columbus Day weekend. Not that it is anything so very special. I bought it because I like it and it was very inexpensive and I thought I could do a quick little Fall vignette – possibly make up for my total lack of Fall decorating thus far. You can read about my good reasons for that here. [...]
